The 2018 NBA Playoffs will reach a critical juncture on Monday night, as there is a chance that the two most likely participants in the upcoming Eastern Conference Finals officially secure their spots with a victory today. The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers are on the precipice of renewing their playoff rivalry with a rematch of last year’s ECF showdown. These clubs have a chance to sweep in their respective Game 4s tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors, although both aren’t favored to do so.

The Celtics are up 3-0 in their series despite having been made the underdog for all three of those contests against the Sixers. Oddsmakers have once again installed Philly as a favorite, this time laying six points as they try to stave off elimination in front of the home fans in Game 4. The Sixers failed to cover as 9.5-point chalk on Saturday, outright losing 101-98 in overtime after Boston’s Al Horford converted a critical layup in the final seconds of the extra period. It’ll be interesting to see if the C’s can pull off the sweep on the road, or if the 76ers can finally show some resolve and close out a game against their Atlantic Division rival. Regardless of what happens, Boston has to feel good about its chances to advance to the conference finals. Teams that are up 3-0 in a series have gone on to win it 129 out of 129 times in NBA postseason history and have yet to blow that commanding lead.

Cleveland wasn’t getting much respect at the start of its Easter Conference Semifinal showdown with Toronto, but the Cavs were able to flip the early perception that the Raptors were the better squad rather quickly. After back-to-back straight-up wins as an underdog in the North, Cleveland returned home and was finally favored in Game 3. The Cavaliers failed to cover the 4.5-point spread, but still came up with a backbreaking 105-103 victory over their opponent on Saturday evening capped off by an incredible buzzer-beater from LeBron James. Cleveland is now 5.5-point chalk for Game 4, where the club will try to finish off Toronto and advance to the conference finals for the fourth straight year.
