7 Ways To Overcome Your Insecurities

In our lives, at some point or the other, we all experience insecurity. Even the most confident person in the room is no exception. Insecurities come from personal, professional, and relationships, but the common root for all types is lack of self-esteem.

To better understand your insecurity, first, you need to know what is causing it. Like any other emotion, insecurity is also an emotion that stems from our beliefs and our perspective as well. Feeling insecure all the time about oneself will affect their emotional well-being and physical health.

No matter how big or small the insecurities are, you can always overcome them by working on yourself and with a plan of action. Ready to raise your confidence levels even more than before? Keep reading for the expert tips to curb your insecurities.

1. Practice Self-Care
Taking good care of yourself is one of the key steps in making you look confident. Periodically checking on yourself will allow you the opportunity to evaluate where you are standing in the line. Add more self-care to your daily routine to build up your self-worth.

Eat healthy food
Exercise regularly
Get enough sleep
Manage stress
Avoid drugs and alcohol
2. Do Things That Bring You, Joy
In your free time, prioritize doing things that bring you joy and happiness. First, create a list of things that make you happy. The list may include petting animals, reading a book, chatting with friends, watching a movie, hanging out with loved ones, treating yourself, gardening, baking a cake, and the list just goes on. Finding and doing a thing that recharges you can help to overcome your insecurities.

3. Spend Time With People Who You Love
Do your friends lift you up or toss you down? Do they constantly judge you? Pay attention!!! Avoid those who tend to trigger your negative thoughts, and get surrounded by supportive people who make you feel good about yourself and accept who you are. This will help you to appreciate your unique qualities and perspectives. So, plan small get-togethers and coffee dates with your nearest and dearest friends.

4. Face Your Fears
Learning how to overcome insecurity doesn’t mean you can control everything you do, say, and feel. Instead of letting your beliefs limit your thoughts, you must learn to face your fears. Even with your insecurities, you need to recognize the safest space, your inner strength, which is hidden inside you. When you start embracing your insecurity, it acts as a catalyst and helps you to get out of your comfort zone.

5. Focus on the Baby Steps
Overcoming insecurity doesn’t happen overnight; it is a journey. Most people fail to realize that baby steps are the ones that help you reach new heights. To make it big in life, you need to start small, or else you are likely to fail. Where the stakes aren’t so high, try to push yourself out of your comfort zone, this will help to build your confidence slowly. Remember, big things have a small beginning.

6. Adopt a Growth Mindset
People with fixed mindsets think that their skills don’t improve no matter how hard they try. But people with growth mindsets think that with work, their skills can improve over time. One should believe that problems are opportunities, not insurmountable obstacles. Every insecurity should be treated as an opportunity to grow. One should utilize his/her insecurity as a source of valuable information and eliminate the “what ifs” from their lives to open the door of opportunities.

7. Consult an Expert
If your insecurity is an ongoing problem and it’s really interfering with your life, seeing an expert can help you explore your fears and insecurities by understanding where they come from. Once you understand where it is coming from and how it is affecting you, you can transform your life accordingly and change your mindset from the inside out. Therapists can also help you develop new tools for managing situations that destroy your confidence.
