Shawarma
This popular dish is now well-known outside of the United Arab Emirates. Shawarma is a type of Middle Eastern sandwich made with slow-roasted and seasoned meat which typically involves chicken or lamb. It can be served with veggies, fries, tomatoes, pickles, garlic sauce, and a variety of other sides, all of which are typically served in an Arabic roti called pita. Although shawarma is available almost all over the world including Delhi, New York City, Moscow, Tokyo, and pretty much everywhere else, eating it in Dubai is a must-do.
Stuffed camel
Stuffed camel is considered one of the most lavish and spectacular delicacies in Dubai, having been named by the Guinness World Book of Records as one of the largest delicacies you can consume in the whole world. Stuffed camels are loaded with chicken, fish, eggs, lambs, and spices and cooked on a spit over an open flame. In Dubai, stuffed camel is still considered a traditional delicacy, but since it is so extravagant, it is only offered on special occasions, such as festivals, Bedouin ceremonies, or other major cultural or family events.
Al Harees
While this recipe usually takes hours to prepare, the ingredients are surprisingly simple. A pinch of salt is added to a pot of wheat and beef, which is then cooked until the texture is creamy and consistent to the point where the meat and grain can barely be distinguished. Al Harees is a simple dish that offers a pleasant and welcoming change for your palette in a country of rich spices.
Matchbous
Matchbous is a classic Emirati delicacy with a flavour that is distinct, strong, spicy, and rich. Matchbous is produced from lamb that has been seasoned with loomi. Loomi is produced using saltwater and dried, ripe limes. The lamb is then simmered with tomatoes and rice in a stew. This recipe is additionally flavoured with cloves, cassia bark, cardamom, turmeric, and baharat, giving it a remarkable and delish flavour and texture.
Mehalabiya
Mehalabiya is extremely popular with children and is ideal for the ones who want a refreshing after-dinner treat that isn't overly sweet. Being one of the most popular desserts of Dubai, Mehalabiya offers a distinct flavour of rosewater and pistachio.
Dubai caters to all types of diners, including vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Whether you're a foodie or not, you can't simply ignore the delicious flavours that Dubai cuisine has to offer.
