Many women get married but may not wish to become mothers so soon. They have other goals and aspirations to achieve before approaching motherhood. As a woman, you can choose many contraceptive methods to prevent pregnancy. One of them is an Intrauterine Contraceptive Device.

It is a small plastic, copper, or hormone-containing device placed inside the uterus to prevent pregnancy. The intrauterine device comes in different types, sizes and shapes to suit other women. Depending upon your choice of contraception period, you can insert it for three years, five years, and even 10 years. There are copper and hormonal IUCDs available with various advantages.

Prevents pregnancy

When you insert the IUCD into your body, it works as a contraceptive shield. You can prevent pregnancy with one of these contraceptive methods as they are more than 99% effective. It is cost-effective and easy to use. You can use it during the lactation period as well.

Long duration

The IUCD has a long intrauterine life ranging between five years to 10 years. It also reduces the risk of heavy menstrual bleeding and ectopic pregnancy. Insertion of the device is safe even after abortion or miscarriage with no infection. All women, including adolescents and those aged above 40 years, can insert the machine safely.

Removal options

You can get the IUCD removed from your uterus with the help of a trained doctor or nurse. Your fertility returns to normal soon after removing it. If you are not willing to get another inserted, you can use condoms for seven days before releasing them to prevent sperms from entering your uterus.

No weight gain

When you insert the device into your body, you will not experience weight gain and other weight-related issues. Also, the insertion does not involve touching the body. Hence, you can remain carefree about infections spread through contact. It also does not interfere with foreplay or intercourse.

Insertion after pregnancy

You can insert the IUCD after delivering a baby, whether it is normal vaginal delivery, caesarean section or abortion after the first trimester.

How to test pregnancy?

You can check your pregnancy status by using pregnancy kits. It is an easy do-it-yourself method to confirm pregnancy. They usually comprise a standard pregnancy stick test with a small container or dropper, depending on the brand purchased.

The pregnancy test detects a pregnancy hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), present in the urine of a pregnant woman. You can use the kit when you miss your period, experience food aversions, cramps, nausea, and breast tenderness.

Take the test two days to three days after missed periods to ensure reliable results. It is advisable to do it in the morning using the morning urine sample. If you have a dropper at hand, use it to add the urine dropwise in the marked pit of the pregnancy test to prevent overloading.
