After two decades of hiatus, in 2019 the iconic Supra nameplate returned to the Toyota line as a sports coupon developed with BMW. The so-called GR Supra ("GR", which is short-sighted for Gazoo Racing) is the fifth generation of the sports car and will be in its fourth model year, when the 2023s will revolve around everything. After returning, "Toyota" increased the engine output, increased the second power supply and developed a new cutting level. But with a fierce new competitor in the next-generation Nissan Z, Toyota has more to do than move forward. Look for a new powertrain version with more suspension tuning and maybe even hand accessories on the 2023 Supra.

For the main purpose of building a fun sports car, Toyota nailed it (again) with the GR Supra. The 2020 Launch Edition with its BMW-powered inline-six 2018 V-8 with the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and Ford Mustang GT is as fast as 60 meters. It also reaches 70 mph in the same 5.1 seconds when the 1997 Supra Turbo reached 60 mph.

Since then, Toyota has released more power from the engine (but no more than 0-60 mph), increased turbo-quad-core power, and improved steering since the first generation. The braking is predictable, with a solid pedal and mostly non-existent fading, but the tail of the car comes to light when accelerating at high speeds.

Dynamically, the largest Achilles heel of present-day Supra is in his hand. It tends to overheat and display more cylindrical body package than you would like from an upgrade machine. Toyota has tried to solve the problem with greater chassis rigidity, new damper tuning and revised programming to make the car adaptive variable. However, the rear bombing should require further review so that the roads are better resolved. The cabin of the Mk V Supra is also more toned than the interior of the Mk IV. But it was said that if you are in the market for a paid rear sports car that has enough power to scare you, then the GR Supra might be for you.

Will the 2023 Supra get the S58 engine of the BMW M3 / M4?

One of the rumors circulating around the future GR Supra is that it assumes that the BMW Z4, the way it splits the platform, can get more power than the current two. The standard 255-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine and the existing 382-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six will include the M3 sedan and the twin-turbo S58 engine in the M4 coupe. This inline-six is a warmer version of the Supra and Z4 six-cylinder B58 and makes 503 hp commendable.

Further speculation is that the GR Supra is adding a version of handicrafts. Currently, the Supra is only offered for 8-speed automatic transmission. If either the S58 or the wood shift comes, we expect the Supra to stay behind the wheel. We also think that if it gets a turbo-six from those M cars, it will probably be available in very limited quantities at a high price.

Will the 2023 Supra become the last model year of the Mark V generation?

Another potential scenario is Toyota retiring for this generation of Supra after the 2023 model year. Former Supra gifts have an average lifespan of about 5 years. Toyota 2021 sports car model is one of the lowest volume sellers of the brand. Only the behemoth Land Cruiser SUV was sold in the 2021 series.

We take that intimacy with a grain of salt, though. This generation is only 4 years old. Although Toyota may not transport many GR Supra cars, but after the return of the model in 2019, it has managed to sell more every year. The delivery of the first year reached 3000 units, and in 2021 it doubled. Turning on a sports car at this point seems premature.
