This movie starts with a real head of steam. It's stylish, sharp, fast paced, and stuffed with great performances. I wasn't sure how it could maintain the energy of the first 40 minutes and, unfortunately, it doesn't. Mostly the film focuses on the school board admins who are covering up some serious wrong doings. Which is the good stuff. Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney are superb. Hugh Jackman is specifically great as the superintendent. The film starts by establishing him as the perfect school advisor. He's present, super caring, knows all the students by name, and even knows their parents hobbies. Then the film rips the floor out from underneath you and all the characters they set up. It really works and is highly engaging. You pair this great character work with a tight structure and you get some magic scenes. Again, this is mostly in the first half of the film. Around the halfway mark is when the film starts to shift focus more to a student writing about the cover up and the subsequent fallout. That's when this starts to tread into very familiar waters. I can't count how many movies I've seen where a reporter peers over papers that aren't matching up and gets confused. It doesn't take up a ton of screen time unlike most movies about reporters and the structure is better here too. Still, it hurts the pacing and the character of this student isn't all that interesting. In short, it's a tail of two halves. The first half is wonderful and the second is just okay. Some things are consistent though like the amazing music, mannered cinematography, and some inspired editing/transitions. From a filmmaking perspective it's really top notch. I think if the script went through at least one more draft and maybe the editor went over it again we'd have a really special movie. As is, it's still pretty great. Watch out for Cory Finley. He's got two bangers in a row now.

Could have been a good movie, I guess. I stopped watching it as soon as it became more about a social agenda than good, rational entertainment. Junk.

14:40 we had this last year in my history. He didn't do anything but sit on tables and stare out of windows, it took half an hour to do the registration and even when he finished he wouldn't start teaching or even put anything on for the hole hour, and if he did teach us stuff, it was exact same word for word stuff we had already learnt at the start of the year, now we are crazy behind because of him.

This movie is quite the introspective look on character. What is amazing, and truly unique about it is that it's not near a black and white story. The persons in question are humanized. There is no evil person and no good vs. evil. The subjects of this movie are shown as human like the rest of us. They have genuine motives for what happened. Granted, I do not know much about the actual story it is based on, but regardless of that, from a film aspect this is a different narrative than the usual trope it may follow. On top of that, this is a beautiful representation of the powers of investigative journalism. A high school student that chooses to find truth against the powers of authority. For that fact alone, it is worth a watch in the environment we live in today. Fantastic movie. Extremely well acted, scripted, and down right provocative. I may even go so far as to say this is an HBO masterpiece. If nothing else. Please watch.
