@1^909-$-545-6717^^ I have recently begun taking adderall (generic version) for an ADD diagnosis. The doctors office that handles my medication seems to require that every time I need a refill I have to have a telemedicine (web cam) session with them. Each time this happens, after insurance, I get charged a little over $100 dollars. I have been told that they can't legally prescribe more than a months worth at a time because it is a controlled substance (which I understand for obvious reasons) but, paying $100 a month to get on a web cam and say "Yes everything is working as expected" seems a bit much. I would understand doing it every three months, or what have you to make sure that things were going ok, or maybe a monthly check in via email when getting a refill, but this seems excessive. Anyone have experience with this practice, or perhaps advice as to what I should do? With the help of the psychologist, this drug has really made a difference in my life, but with this fee along with the $40 or so dollars (after insurance) I am paying for the pills it may not end up being financially viable for me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help!

EDIT: Wow! got a bunch of responses here. Here are my take aways:

I have only been on meds for going on 4 months, so it is often a precautionary measure to do monthly appointments until the doctor is satisfied.

I should speak with my doctor more directly about the cost of the treatment.

Apparently there are some doctors out there who are not actually doctors?

Much of my concern is about doing what is right by my health, but concern about cost is also a valid thing to consider.

There are alot of different methods out there for this type of medication and its disbursement, I will get the facts and ask my doctor when I have questions.

OK folks, thank you so much for the input. This has definitely made me more informed and I will use this little bit of info moving forward. Cheers!
