In most college life blogs, students describe one more freshman anxiety: the lack of time. When talking about high school vs college life, this is one of the main differences between them. In high school, students are constantly scheduled to choose topics for argumentative essay. In college, students often have classes that are spaced out during the day and more free time between classes. Also, they often are bunched up into several days.
It may sound good, but managing this free time is usually quite challenging. After college life, you will remember that there are a lot of demands, such as studying, eating, working or exercising. You just have to schedule your time effectively.
Many young people with college life experience advise to avoid procrastination. Nothing can be worse for a student than the approaching end of the semester when you realize that there is a multiplicity of different tasks to complete. One of college life tips is having some good time while remembering why you are in college.
Organize Your Day Properly
When I recall in memory my college life, one image comes to mind: pinball. I used to bounce back and forth to class, dorm, dining hall, library, gym, etc. all day long. Actually, it requires some time to get used to it, but most students appreciate the opportunity to manage their time. So, keep in mind that preparation for college life includes getting ready to organize your day properly.
It was back in high school when I did not have a clear idea of what was really important to me and what was not, as well as I could not clearly define my future choice of career. However, lots of things changed during the spring term of my senior year, when a guest speaker from one of the most respectful universities came on to try and recruit as many students to his university as possible. The best thing I liked about the speech was that the main message of it was not “Go to study at our college”, but “Give your best and choose the major you want to study at most”. He was not using a fancy vocabulary trying t create some fake impressions, but what he did inspire me and lots of other students in my class – he shared examples from his own life and emphasized on the importance of finding one’s own place in life during the time of study at college. I could feel the wave of straightforwardness coming from him as he was giving the speech, following the gestures of his hands and the mimics on his face. He was putting accent on every single sentence he was bringing to the audience, leaving nobody idle and keeping everyone’s attention on the subject of his speech. Despite his speech lasted no more than half an hour, he managed to impact me more than all the teachers and tutors whom I dealt with for years. The special point of the speech was in giving us all a minute of silence to think over the future goals we could make and memorizing them. As it turned out later, it became really helpful to me since I came up with an idea for my nearest future, including getting the degree and traveling abroad. I believe the speech was crucial not only for me but for at least half of the people in the audience, and I hope to get a chance to listen to that speaker once again if I come across a chance to.
We all try to make us and our parents, relatives, friends, children, lovers more successful. We ask themselves what the best techniques and methods to reach this goal are.
Basically, there are four methods of oral language which teach children to read and write. First and foremost, it enriches child’s vocabulary. For example, when baby does not know something she or he points at it by her finger and parents or other people surrounding tell them the name of the thing, and, thus, children become familiar with it. Once they saw and learned it they would remember and use it in case of need. Furthermore, through oral language children learn about the basics of language structure which is studied more in details later at schools. Without learning certain rules and exceptions they know what phrase or word means and how to use it in communication with people. Moreover, oral language encourages children to use their linguistic skills in writing or reading, which, in turn, contributes to their general literacy level.
In my opinion, it is an outcome of existing reciprocal links between speaking, reading and writing abilities. It is supported by emergency literacy theory under which “children show knowledge and ability in written language through oral delivery forms, such as using structures suited to written discourse in an orally delivered version of a storybook while looking at the book's pictures rather than tracking and using cues from print” In addition, people with oral language disabilities or illnesses may say the word which would have different meaning for him or her and for a person who is listening. For example, some children may have problems while using words ‘sink’ and ‘think’ since they are almost the same in pronunciation. Another language impairments are misuse of words, misunderstanding of them, incapacity to express ideas, thoughts, etc. Mentioned disabilities lead to many negative consequences. It may reveal itself in children’s isolation from the world where they are misunderstood or humiliated because of their disabilities or a child may encounter many difficulties in conversations with others which of course affects the general literacy development since there are no or fewer communication of the child with outside world. It may also cause complications in learning because the child, for example, may misunderstand or not hear properly the word which is used for that or this thing or, simply, to leave out a couple of words and do not catch the information he or she is provided with.
