It really doesn't save any money in the long run because it doesn't last and needs to be replaced much more frequently than well cared for older quality tack, and is dangerous to boot. I don't trust cardboard leather not to snap in half unexpectedly during a ride, and especially not cheaply made saddle trees. Also, with cheap saddles, that may cost you some huge vet/chiro bills.
