Australian Dollar (AUD) Aussie stabilizes after nasty tumble. How Is AUD/USD Doing?

It has been a rough spell for the Australian dollar, which has steadied after a four-day slide. This downswing saw AUD/USD plunge over 300 points and break below the symbolic 70 level.

Market nerves weigh on the Australian dollar

Ahead of today’s FOMC rate meeting, risk sentiment is nowhere to be found. The US inflation report and expectations that the Fed will remain very aggressive have raised fears of a recession in the US. This has allowed the US dollar to surge,… Continue

"EURGBP, GBPUSD – the Bank of England is seen hiking rates at this Thursday’s meeting (...) "

Summary: The market was crushed to new cycle lows yesterday by the market more fully pricing in the risk of super-size hikes from the Fed at the FOMC meeting this Wednesday and in July, with a 75 basis point hike now seen as a certainty tomorrow and very likely for the July meeting. This would be the first time the Fed has hiked more than 50 basis points since 1994. Some argue that the Fed may need to shock the market with a 100 basis point move. This has the market increasingly concerned that… Continue

Bearish signals in gold set up a drawdown potentially to $1630

Gold lost about 3% on Monday alone and touched $1809 at the start of trading on Tuesday.

Yesterday’s sell-off provided us with four medium-term bearish signals on the daily timeframes.

First, the daily candlestick completely absorbed Friday’s bullish momentum, clearly showing the strength of the bears.

Secondly, gold’s recovery stalled on the approach of the 50-day moving average. The strong reversal indicates that the medium-term trend remains… Continue

Obawy inflacyjne uderzają w rynki, wzmacniają dolara

Dolar odzyskał status safe haven pierwszego wyboru wśród inwestorów i umocnił się względem innych głównych walut, podczas gdy giełdy notowały spadki.

Continue

FX: GBP/USD (British Pound To US Dollar): Features and recommendations | InstaForex

GBP/USD refers to reverse currency pairs and indicates how many units of dollars (US national currency) you need to pay for one pound sterling (UK national currency). The base currency in the GBP/USD pair is the pound sterling. This means that the commodity in the GBP/USD pair is the pound, and the US dollar is the second currency in the pair, which buys the base currency (pound sterling). Haven buying lifts the US dollar | Oanda

Inflation boosts US dollar

The US inflation data spurred a sharp rise in US yields across the curve, a selloff by equities, and in turn, a haven-derived rush into US dollar. The dollar index tore through resistance at 104.00 on its way to a 0.85% gain to 104.18 on Friday, rising another 0.26% to 104.46 in Asia. The index looks to have formed a medium-term low now as the reality of monetary policy divergence permeates the financial world. The dollar index will now have 105.00 in its… Continue

Oil dips after US inflation, gold rises

Oil prices edged lower on Friday as US inflation eroded hopes of a Fed-derived soft landing. The falls were modest though, highlighting that despite economic slowdown nerves, the supply/demand situation remains as stagflationary tight as ever. Brent crude finished 0.83% lower at USD 121.85 a barrel, and WTI fell just 1.0% to USD 121.25 a barrel.

In Asia, oil has fallen again, this time after mass testing in Beijing and Shanghai over the weekend raised fears that lockdowns would… Continue

FX Update: Yields on fire with bevy of CB meets ahead.

Summary: The US CPI and inflation expectations data on Friday jolted the US dollar back higher as the market sharply raised the Fed rate hike trajectory at coming meetings. Liquidity conditions are looking dire for the riskiest assets here and EM- and G10 small currencies are suffering aggravated weakness on the general deleveraging fallout. A string of important central bank meetings up this week, led by the FOMC meeting Wednesday, but the SNB Thursday and BoJ Friday could also provide… Continue

Macro Insights: Leaning in on Emerging Asia

Summary: Given our expectation of further pain in US equities, we believe it remains prudent to consider an optimum asset allocation. Exposure to Asia ex-Japan provides scope for long-term growth in a portfolio, despite the abundant risks faced by emerging Asian economies from tighter Fed policy, rising food and energy prices or the slowdown in China. We see pockets of opportunity in Indonesia, India and Vietnam, while Singapore remains a safe haven in choppy markets.
