Google fined €220m in France over advertising abuse

Technology giant Google has been fined €220m (£189m) by French authorities for abusing its advertising power.

France’s competition watchdog said Google has been promoting its own online advertising services to the detriment of rivals.

It found that Google’s ad management platform for large publishers, Google Ad Manager, favoured the company’s own online ad marketplace, Google AdX.

Google said it would make changes to its advertising business.

Prince Harry and Meghan announce birth of baby girl

he Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl.

Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday morning in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.

Both mother and child are healthy and well, the couple said in a statement.

Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

Hillsborough: Police forces agree cover-up compensation for victims

Two police forces are to pay damages to more than 600 people over a cover-up which followed the Hillsborough disaster.

The South Yorkshire and West Midlands forces agreed the settlement earlier this year following a civil claim.

Nobody has ever been convicted over police actions following the disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans died in a crush at a 1989 FA Cup semi-final.

South Yorkshire Police offered an “unreserved apology” to those affected.

Biden expands US investment ban on Chinese firms

US President Joe Biden is set to ban Americans from investing in dozens of Chinese tech and defence firms with alleged military ties.

The new executive order will come into effect on 2 August, hitting 59 firms including communications giant Huawei. The list of firms will be updated on a rolling basis.

The move expands an order previously issued by ex-President Donald Trump.

Even before the official announcement, China suggested it would retaliate.

Daniel Boulton: Murder suspect arrested over Louth deaths

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a mother and her child.

A search for Daniel Boulton was launched after Bethany Vincent, 26, and her nine-year-old son Darren Henson were found stabbed at a house on High Holme Road, Louth, on Monday.

Lincolnshire Police said the suspect, who was known to both victims, was arrested in the Hubbard’s Hills area.

He was also held on suspicion of stabbing an off-duty police officer.
