In a recent update, the weekend actuals for "Songbirds & Snakes" by Lionsgate revealed a global debut surpassing $100 million. The actual figures exceeded Sunday's estimates, especially in the international box office. The worldwide total during the opening frame reached $100.8 million, with $44.6 million from the domestic market and $56.2 million from 87 overseas markets.
The top 10 international markets included the UK ($6.7 million, No. 1), Germany ($5.1 million, No. 1), China ($4.6 million, No. 3), France ($4.2 million, No. 1), Mexico ($3.7 million, No. 1), Australia ($3.6 million, No. 1), Brazil ($3.2 million, No. 1), Italy ($2.6 million, No. 2), Spain ($2 million, No. 1), and the Netherlands ($1.7 million, No. 1).
In the previous Sunday update, "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" narrowly missed the $100 million milestone globally, reaching an estimated $98.5 million by Sunday. The film performed slightly better than projected overseas, with $54.5 million from 87 international markets. The domestic box office contributed $44 million, falling short of the expected $50 million.
Top overseas market openings included the UK ($6.7 million, No. 1), Germany ($4.8 million, No. 1), China ($4.5 million, No. 3), France ($4.1 million, No. 1), and Mexico ($3.7 million, No. 1). Latin America experienced some overperformance.
In China, while there is no Maoyan audience score yet, Douban critics rated it at 7.1, comparable to the first film. Maoyan predicts a final gross of $7.1 million, marking the lowest for "The Hunger Games" titles released in China.
The global IMAX debut reached $7.3 million, with $3.2 million from 74 overseas markets, including $700,000 from China, representing 15% of the total nationwide.
"The Marvels," the Disney/Marvel production, experienced a 67% drop in overseas box office after its debut weekend, adding $19.5 million in 52 markets. The international total is now approaching $100 million, reaching $96.3 million, and the global total stands at $161.3 million.
Universal/Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's" has become the highest-grossing horror film of 2023, surpassing "The Nun 2" with a global total of $271.8 million. In its latest session, it added $9.9 million from 78 overseas markets.
"Trolls Band Together" from Universal/DreamWorks Animation crossed the $100 million global mark, with $6.7 million added in 66 overseas markets this frame. The international total is now $76.4 million, and the worldwide total is $108.1 million.
Notable updates for other films include "Killers of the Flower Moon" reaching $82.2 million international and $145.8 million global, "Thanksgiving" accumulating $2.4 million internationally, "Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie" with $127.3 million international and $192.4 million global, and "Saltburn" earning $1.3 million internationally and $1.62 million globally.
