The GCSE grading system was initially alphabetically ranging from A to G. Now, it has gradually shifted to the numerical system from 9 to 1. According to the new grading structure 9 refers to A+, 8 is in-between A* and A, and 7 is an A. On the other hand 2 is in-between Grade E and F, 1 is a G and U indicates an ungraded paper.
