About This Game

SpaceBourne is a Space Simulation / Arcade / Open World / RPG game.

SpaceBourne’s universe has over 100 Solar Systems, over 400 planets and 37 landable Space Stations.

SpaceBourne is designed so the player can have total freedom. In SpaceBourne the player can mine astroids, salvage wrecks, bounty hunt, discover black holes, come accross space anomalies, become a pirate, discover uncharted systems. While following the main storyline, the player can trade, accept side missions, help the races at war with each other and form up a force of his own. In all of these activities the player gets to make choices, he can choose to trade slaves, of start a war against them and end slavery.

In order to accomplish all of this, one needs a good ship. Player character progresses through leveling, acquire new ships, modify the ships, create new and different weapons. ( As of Beta Ver. 5.0, the game has 144 different weapons and the number keeps going up with each update.)

Player Character has active and passive traits. Passive traits ( such as Piloting, Trade, Charisma etc. ) gets better or not according to the playstyle. Active traits on the other hand is left to the player to choose and pick up as the character levels up.

Except the main storyline SpaceBourne’s content is randomly generated. Every System is randomly generated at game initialization. This allows for the player to come across different events in every new map. This design choice was made in order to bring replayability to the game and allow the player to encounter different events on same maps.

SpaceBourne includes 4 distinct races with different ships, and different specialties. There are more than 3.000 entities for you to interact.

You can play SpaceBourne with Keyboard & Mouse, Gamepad or Joystick, the game supports Force Feedback.

The Story:

Everything starts on a regular day of July 2029 with the appearance of an Unidentified Flying Objects. That day is the first day of earth’s residents meeting their new guests. These guests just wait motionless for a long while... their purpose unclear. In order to be ready for the worst scenerio a committee is assembled by the world’s nations, Wolrd Air Defence Platform. One man is chosen to lead this new organisation, a man everyone calls “The Commander”.

By February 2030 people start getting sick. This new disease with no cure starts to kill people in a year after its infection. What doctors call HX4, the people call “guest influenza”.

At the year 2032 while the world is struggling with the disease, WADP plans an attack against the aliens who are believed to be behind the disease. But they attack first.
While at first heavy casualties are taken, later on under the leadership of the “Commander” great victories start to come. More than 20 enemy ships are destroeyed in the next 3 years.

By 2035, three quartes of the world’s population is gone and almost half of the enemy ships are cleared from the skies. While the people await news of a total victory, something shifts the balance... The Commander gets sick.

An emergency meeting is held. The doctors increases all research efforts to no avail. Any passing day bring the inevitable closer for the Commander.
12th of December 2037 it is decided that the Commander is to be frozen until a cure is found. The next day Commander closes his eyes in a sleeping chamber.
When he opens his eyes again, he is in an abandoned space station in Earth’s orbit. The end had come for Earth, and he is still sick. He has tons of questions in his head, but no one around to answer.

All he has is a deserted space station with a ship at the hangar, and an infinite universe.

Saw an early preview for this game, and have not been disappointed.

Granted it's early access and it lacks a feel of being complete, it leaves me really hoping the developer and this game are around to stay!

The dogfighting feels great, the auto mode not so much. Hope to see the swapping between the two become...smoother and more fluid feeling.

Stations and third person play are at a great place for a start, would love to see more content (traders/vendors..hell why not even real estate?/industry commercial opportunity?) available in each. There's a chance to build a thriving galaxy there, I see nothing but potential!

The ship models are pretty, though so far choosing between them feels more a matter of asthetic appeal than finding any suited to a particular role. Hopefully specialized chassis (and ways to upgrade them perhaps?) are something planned for down the road.

Customizing the player avatar would be cool, and hopefully all of that too is available down the road.

Well worth the $20 to get an early feel for it, many games are asking for more and delivering less with a finished product.

For an early access with so much potential going forward: 9/10

. I've been loving it so far,

It’s like Freelancer, Eve and Everspace having a threesome and you are watching it with Unreal graphics.. Can't play the game... constantly crashes due to UE4 assertion error... :P Would love to review, but since I can't get the game to play it's a thumbs down for now.. It is nice to see games like this. A breath of fresh air in the early access world.

What is Spacebourne? Fundamentally a space shooter with RPG elements. If you played old games like Freelancer and Starlancer, you have an idea of what the developer (yes, this is made by just one person), is aiming at. Although at times feels like if the direction is Mass Effect.

The good is that the developer does not hype the game; so you can fully appreciate all the work that has been put in.
To be hoenest, the game is pretty rough around the edges; voiceover is OK, the story is not really clear at this point, you just start after being frozen and "things happen"; I won't spoil it, but it is pretty much not winning any Pulitzer prize. But that is totally fine for the time being.

When you start the game you will notice some imperfections, graphical glitches and overall impression that the game has still a long way ahead, but you will enjoy what is already there. The meat is the space combat; you can pilot the ship from 3rd person (like Everspace for example) or first person in the cockpit; which is really appreciated. The UI is clean and well thought in the cockpit; while outside, there is some work to do.
After a tutorial you will get the hang of how to pilot the ship; then you move to the 3rd person story; where you walk around a space station and learn how to pilot the ship in auto mode (kinda like a RTS sort of way to control the ship; it is easier to look at it and use it than explaining it); you can switch between auto and manual mode at will.

Flying around is fun; the controls are decent and there are few ways to control the ship, like arcade (imagine a first person shooter type of control), I didn't try the other methods yet, so can't say how fun are they. You can play with the keyboard and mouse, gamepad or hotas, from what I can tell (didn't try them all yet).
Shooting is also fun; the dogfights are pretty immediate; you won't end up jousting like in other space games; you dogfight old school, like wing commander or more recent games like Everspace; so have to avoid attacks; get on the tail of your enemy and hammer down the shields and hull. If you are a fan of newtonian shooters; this is not the game for you.

Graphics are fine; needs work for sure, same for animations, but what is there is serviceable and feels almost like playing one of the old games from the 2010 period. Some areas are gorgeous, while others looks low poly and with very strange textures; but being an early access game, that is fine.

Sound is pretty good; beside the voiceover of the protagonist, that is a bit off at times, the rest seems to be fine. Music is also fine.

In the end; I am looking forward to see what will happen next with this game. The developer seems very inclined to respond, so you get a pretty good idea on the forum about where the game is going and what is coming next. If you want to jump in, you will get a good deal of fun with the first few missions available at the moment; and the updates seems to be consistend and frequent; the advantage of having one developer is that he is pretty clear on his roadmap, so that is good advantage, compared to larger teams where confusion often arise.

As is now, it is not much but it is promising, so I want to recommend this game. I'll keep it short and sweet
__Great game__

Iv'e been looking for a freelancer style game for years and there it is.

Good job you guys. people there are things in this game that need to be fixed - (not worth the price paid for the aggravation of the current game mechanics ... buy at your own risk!!!

back again this time April 28th 2019 installed the game uninstalled the game once again still have not fixed keyboard control (Example) RShift + Left Arrow - RShift + Right Arrow for strafe L or R (muti) key functions

V2 Due Next Two Weeks, Turns Display Even Better!:
I did quite a bit of work on the turns to make them a little more intelligent after doing buffer compares of views and found a way to make them a lot smoother than they were. They now more closely resemble the "swivels" in LANDS OF LORE except ours are a little more even. I had to get rid of the configuration for steps in turns in order to assure this happens at the right speed with the right perspective.

Version Two of Grimoire is really looking SPECTACULAR! The new regions are awesome and all integrated into the existing story! Working together with the new crafting system you have added dimensions to game play mechanics that did not even exist in the first version.

Inventory workshop needs a little more tweaking, one thing I was working on today was highlighting all possible merge candidates for an item when you click on the "MERGE" button to show you what you might be able to successfully merge given the current party member's vocation and skill levels.

Extensive trials of poisoned items tested in combat, forged items, sharpened blades and enchanted weapons. All of them degrade with use in combat until they wear off. The enchanted weapons lose their aura if you kill a monster with them. All of these play mechanics have been balanced in order to make the crafts useful but not exploits.

The wishlist had now climbed to a level that I am pretty confident will justify a $9.95 price discount when V2 comes out. After that the game will likely run a regular price of $19.95 including when it goes to GOG. If you purchase on Steam and Grimoire releases on GOG, you can be assured that your purchase on Steam will be transferred to allow you access on GOG as well - and you will have gotten it at half the price on GOG.. Grimoire 1.2.0.76-R Update:
This update is the LAST update before Grimoire V2 comes out with the manual! This update specifically targets the problem with full screen on 4K monitors and several other devices. There is a provision in the configuration menu now to test a very wide variety of auto-detected compatible resolutions for full screen mode with centering, scaling and window boxing as an option for all resolutions on your monitor that fall somewhere between the native resolution and 2x scaling.

The DEFAULT is now full screen and your existing config file will be overwritten! You can go into configuration and change to windowed mode if you'd prefer as was the default in previous versions. You still have to reboot the application to see screen resolution changes.

There are numerous fixes for various issues in this update and some of them are substantial improvements to playability.

ESCAPE key exits NPC dialogue text input now which is convenient for exiting without typing "BYE" or "QUIT" etc.

There is a new encryption scheme on the resource file which will break existing resource hackers but if you are a low test beta cuck using a savegame editor you should still find that works unmodified. The savegame files have not been encrypted because it might break compatibility with very early versions.

The new splash screen for the main menu was disabled although a config option for it is present. The new splash screen will be present in the coming V2 and then this option will work to switch between classic original splash screen (the one now) and the new "Grimoire" tome menu screen.

The option to activate TABLET ROBBERS is working but this is still being fine tuned and may exhibit some irregularities. No matter what happens, you can still get the tablets from The White Owl later in the game no matter who steals them away initially! It is likely additional information will be added to some of the spells to tell you who has what tablets and where they are going in the game. Some of this code was commented out for years and has only recently been commented back in. With more debugging and testing there may be multiple targets for sequestration of tablets robbed from caches, there is existing data now in the editor for the map that is not used to implement this very feature. For example, a Rhattu stealing a tablet and hiding it in Nerukruel Pyramid instead of it being collected by the White Owl eventually. All this is being implemented in V2 without disturbing existing savegames.

Constitution lost through resurrection is now regained to the race base at character creation every time the party sleeps. Just thought this is something that should not be a permanent penalty when a character is resurrected.

* Some players reported being unable to detect or set the default resolution of 1024x768x16 so a slightly altered version was updated to simply use whatever the current resolution is at bootup for the full-screen default. This means Grimoire will use whatever is present, assuming some sort of computer display device is hooked up. If you are viewing Grimoire on a VT102 ASCII terminal you are going to get an error.. An Important Announcement About SpaceBourne:
As beta testing has been ongoing, we have been fixing bugs and issues as they were discovered. While working on corrections last night, we came across a new major issue that requires recoding a sizeable part of the game that will take more time to resolve.

Unfortunately, until this issue can be resolved, the release date will be postponed, and we are now targeting a release for 10/5/18 .

As SparceBourne is a game with vast content which comes with many unpredictable bugs; we decided to have a 2 month Early Access begining at 10/5/18 .

We offer our sincerest apologies to all who have been looking forward to this release of the game.

https://discord.gg/kuDZUvx. Write A Review For Grimoire!:
If you have played Grimoire and enjoyed it, please write a review for it!

If 10% of the players who have enjoyed Grimoire would write a review of it, the game would be rated overwhelmingly positive in only 24 hours.

Early on, Grimoire was subject to an organized campaign that was coordinated on Reddit, Quarter to Three, Broken Forum and many private forums with political slants (no gamers, just social justice warriors) to abuse the refund policy on Steam by purchasing the game, letting it run for a few minutes and then writing a bad review before asking for a refund. Many of these "reviews" made it obvious that the "owner" had never played the game and almost looked like it was copied and pasted in from a forum somewhere, basically rehashing things that never happened and bugs that never were and issues that only existed in the minds of people at Reddit. This was all politically motivated by the same sort of people who screamed at the sky in public in huge crowds because Donald Trump won the election. For example, over a hundred people agreed on a forum that it was racist and cultural appropriation that one of the pirates in the game was named "Black Pierre." I wish I could make stuff up like this, it would make for a fantastic narrative but I am afraid even my talents fall short in the face of this kind of delusional thinking. I'm glad now I never put in that "Blackboard Puzzle" I was thinking about that was solved using "Oreo" cookies.

Incredibly, many of the people who "refunded" the game simply made a pirate copy and have been playing the game for over a year, whilst asking for support on the forum and playing very intensively for hundreds of hours. With the release of V2, I started to ban these people if they didn't have the purchase icon beside their names on the forum. You have to draw the line somewhere.

I estimate based on downloads from pirate sites that Grimoire has been downloaded and played by over a 100,000 people for well over a hundred hours on average. I don't really care about piracy because I wasn't making a game like Grimoire for pirates. I was making it for fans of the genre.

Any game that goes on Steam has to put up with some of the great diversity in the Steam user pool, which is considerable. I don't believe Grimoire currently has a fair rating on Steam at all and I think it's been deliberately skewed by politically motivated attacks the same as Donald Trump has been in the newspapers the past 3 years. If you want to help correct this situation and you enjoyed playing the game, please take 5 minutes to post a review.

The average game on Steam is never played at all or else only a couple hours before it is abandoned forever. Grimoire is one of the only games on Steam that people can play for 300 hours and then complain because they think this or that race does not recharge mana fast enough - or because their party got killed by a monster. Think about how crazy that is, then think about that plus a person who has actually pirated the game complaining in this fashion. You can see why supporting users on Steam can be very "challenging" and now you know why people call them "precious snowflakes." There's entitlement ... then there is entitlement. If you want to help Grimoire and you enjoy the game, please take a few minutes to write a review.
. Grimoire 1.2.0.29-R Update:
Decided that some of the fixes and enhancements applied today should go up immediately. In particular, there is now help support in the character review screen for attributes the same way the skills are supported. Click on any attribute in the character screen to see the abbreviated description of what role it has in game mechanics. This should help until the manual is finished.

Also in this update is a really useful enhancement to containers, with improved cues on screen including a current count of items in a container and the max number of items permitted for that container at the bottom of each item graphic in the inventory bar.

I fixed some problems with Djinn wishes that could have messed up game logic. It is unlikely they did so but better to tighten up the code to make that impossible. Also worked on the NPC AI for basic tablet seeking. The NPC logic will be turned on again in the next update.
