What started as a simple escort mission will soon turn to chaos as the prisoners of Koh Kla take over the prison grounds. A special task force [Jean-Paul Ly, Dara Our, Tharoth Sam] gets trapped in the prison will have to fight their way out for survival, to protect a key witness [Savin Phillip].
In Cambodia, the police arrests the gangster Playboy since they believe he is the leader of the Butterfly gang. However Playboy is only responsible for laundering the money and other crimes and accepts a plea bargain to disclose the name of the true kingpin. The local police officers Dara, Tharoth and Sucheat and the French officer Jean-Paul, who is visiting the Cambodia, are assigned to escort Playboy to the maximum security prison. Meanwhile, the mobster Madame Butterfly, who is the true boss, puts a bounty on Playboy. The officers deliver Playboy and when they are leaving the prison, there is a riot and the inmates escape from their cells. Now the officers and the security guard that is guiding them have to fight to survive.
Follow up the successful of The Raid in 2011 that make action lover around the world acknowledge Indonesia in 2017 Cambodia make their first break out mainstream action movie Jailbreak with their own martial arts and many new kick-ass faces especially Jean-Paul Ly and Celine Tran.With little to no characters development the movie focus purely on the bone breaking action with wide camera shot from start to finish and when you thought it all over it tease you with a sequel that I very looking forward to
As a huge fan of the two RAID films made by Gareth Evans, I'm always on the look out for similar movies and JAILBREAK is that exactly. It's a Cambodian version of THE RAID, with a negligible plot involving a group of cops who are assigned with transporting a criminal into a dangerous prison. Unfortunately the prisoners, led by a psychotic gang boss, want to see the criminal dead and proceed to bust out of their cells to get him; the cops subsequently have a fight on their hands. This is a film made with limited scripting, uninteresting performances, and a ton of well-choreographed fight scenes which are strong enough to dispel any problems with the film elsewhere. The film lurches from one creative, high-energy fight scene to the next, with a whirling camera adding to the expert choreography. The fights are fluid and exciting, showing off plenty of agility and some fine high kicking; they lack intensity at times but generally make for a highly entertaining movie.
