Waverley is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832). Published anonymously in 1814 as Scott's first venture into prose fiction, it is often regarded as the first historical novel in the western tradition.. Edward Waverley, an English gentleman of honour, chooses an occupation in the army at the time just before the Jacobite uprising of 1745 on advice of his father. He contributed extensively to the growing number of publications catering for the Scottish tourist trade (that had received such an impetus from the success of Scott's novels), notably Picturesque Views of Edinburgh, The Scottish Tourist, and Robert Chambers's The Picture of Scotland. download Waverley Novels [Abbotsford Edition], download Waverley Novels [Abbotsford Edition], audiobook download download Waverley Novels [Abbotsford Edition], azw download Trassel - Innan för evigt Sir Walter Scott, in full Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet, (born August 15, 1771, Edinburgh, Scotland—died September 21, 1832, Abbotsford, Roxburgh, Scotland), Scottish novelist, poet, historian, and biographer who is often considered both the inventor and the greatest practitioner of the historical novel.
