DiRT Rally 2.0 has so much potential to be a 4/5 game, but it got this game breaking feature which is online career mode. I can't recommend any game with that cancer so thumbs down.. No snow, no pikes peak, downgraded graphics, poor performance, ridiculous price, dlc seasons, small selection of cars, small selection of locations, 'always online' rule, no difficulty slider for career mode but at least the driving improved.. Gameplay-wise, DiRT Rally 2.0 is a clear improvement over the first game, as the driving feels snappy, the co-driver doesn't eat his microphone all the time and some of the streamlining decisions are not all too bad. The lack of depth in the engineers may bother some, but I'm fine with it. What I'm not fine with is the always-online requirement, even for single-player races. This is so much of a problem that the game may suddenly just not connect. Just now I tried to do a Daily event - one-off events which you must complete in one attempt or else you "DNF" out of them - with the main-menu and everything else syncing fine. Start up the daily race and suddenly it cannot connect. 20 attempts later I said "Eh, I'm sure it didn't save anything anyway" so back to main-menu I go. NOW it decides to sync yet again, as if the menu-sync is not broken but race-sync is, and the Daily says "DNF". Geez, good thing I didn't wanna try to do my Weekly right now or else the game would've locked me out of that. It would be SUPER USEFUL for Codemasters to either remove the always-online requirement to begin with or at least, AT LEAST, offer a bloody server-status to the main-menu to inform players AHEAD OF STARTING ONE-OFF EVENTS that you'll lose progress unless you decide to sit in the "retry connection" menu until it's fixed, which can take minutes or possibly hours to fix. So, mostly due to this, I cannot recommend the game in the current stage. It's great when it works, but stings when it doesn't. The early access release's server-issues were so bad that Codemasters gave every early-access-driver (so everyone buying the Deluxe Edition ahead of regular release and playing it ahead of regular release) 1 million in-game Credits to make up for it. It still doesn't run flawlessly.. Dirt Rally 2.0? i think its Dirt 4 1.5 - I like it - but for now more cons than pros Pros: -Looks quite nice Cons: -Where is FFB? You said, now you can feel surface, ruts etc. I feel. nothing. Worse ffb on G25 even DR1 and D4. -ocasional stuttering -polish co drivers sounds very relaxed. He sitting in studio not next to you during driving. -sometimes co drives have huge lag or "mistakes".. If you're looking for an experience even slightly similar to the previous Dirt Rally then just don't buy this game at all. If you're a more casual player and don't have much of a preference towards the driving mechanics of the Dirt games then I'd say don't spend ANY more than $20 on this game. Building off the hype of the previous Dirt Rally game made this a complete let down for me. However looking at it as a standalone release in the series, it's mediocre. I guess. Listing the game at full price and then adding new tracks and cars shortly after release as purchasable DLC is ridiculous, especially well known cars like the C4. That's like having Halo on sale for $60 then making the assault rifle and some of the campaign missions paid DLC. The tracks and their environments themselves are quite nice and unique and vary well from one another and the cars sound and look great but that's about it. With all that said, at this point yes I've lost hope for this series. I think best case scenario now would just be to release new FREE content for DR1 and actively update the game whilst listening to the community. But lets be real that's not gonna happen.. Not what i expected. -------------What i LIKED-------------------- -The road feels more alive -The sound effects of cars sound sick! -The tuning has more options -The AI has better difficulty -More Rally Cross tracks -------------What i DIDN'T like--------------- -First of all they removed all the good Dirt Rally 1.0 tracks including (Finland,Sweden,Acropolis and PIKES PEAK) Seriously Pikes Peak? Why to do that! -They changed the graphics, the lightning is a lot better but in overall they look really blurry now, especially the textures. -Some serious stutters from time to time, still playable but it is annoying. -The voice of Co-Driver sounds really "fake" -You have to be Online to play the career and it always uploads your stats to Race Net. -The force feedback on steering wheels feels weird and softer. -Ford Mustang and Aston Martin on a rally game? Are they serious? we need more Group A&B cars not SCI-FI cars. -I thought the handlings were close to RBR, but no they are not! Even Dirt Rally 1.0 felt more realistic in driving than that which is a 2015 game. Conclusion: If you own Dirt Rally 1.0 there is no need to buy this because this one feels like an improved version of Dirt 4. I hope we get some proper updates and more content in the near future.. I would have given this a good review, but u2665u2665u2665u2665 this always online u2665u2665u2665u2665u2665u2665u2665t. Everything you do you have to wait for the game to communicate with racenet. If I want to dou2665u2665u2665u2665u2665u2665online I will do the online stuff, why the u2665u2665u2665u2665 does the game have to communicate with racenet for my u2665u2665u2665u2665ing career, that should just be dependent on an offline part of the u2665u2665u2665u2665ing game, it shouldn't be tied into online crap, other than just doing a quick update on your profile. You might as well have made this a u2665u2665u2665u2665ing cloud game.. EDIT: An update to the force feedback system has been released, review may be outdated** As a wheel user I cant recommend it in it's current state due to the broken force feedback system. Road surface feedback is non existent in comparison to Dirt Rally 1. This specific problem won't effect controller players but if you use a racing wheel then I suggest sticking with dirt rally 1 until this big oversight is fixed. The always online and DLC aspects are poor, anti-consumer decisions but are not a deal breaker for me and only add to the reasons I have refunded this game for now. On top of this is the no VR support. On a positive note I love the New Zealand track and Australia track, the track wear and mud are amazing, and the selection of cars is good. It really is a shame that whoever is in charge has decided to release the game in its unpolished state, you can see the love and effort that has been poured into this game and I hope once the issues are fixed they receive great reviews and sell many copies, because it will be a fantastic sequel to dirt rally 1. Don't rush your games so much codemasters.. Force online No, this is my last DirT
